Lock Encrypted Media Extensions
Verified with Mozilla Firefox v8.2 — updated on July 10, 2026
Supported on: Firefox 77 or later, Firefox 68.9 ESR or later
Path in the GPO console
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Mozilla\Firefox\Encrypted Media Extensions User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Mozilla\Firefox\Encrypted Media Extensions Description
If this policy is enabled and EncryptedMediaExtensions are disabled, Firefox will not download encrypted media extensions (like Widevine) or ask the user to install them. If this policy is disabled or not configured, it has no effect.
Registry
Software\Policies\Mozilla\Firefox\EncryptedMediaExtensions Software\Policies\Mozilla\Firefox\EncryptedMediaExtensions Value name: Locked
Enabled: Locked = 1
Disabled: Locked = 0
Export Builder
BETAConfigure the state, scope and options, then generate .reg, PowerShell, Intune and SCCM outputs — or add the setting to a multi-setting collection.
These exports write the registry — this is not a managed GPO. ⓘ
Applying both scopes creates an ambiguous configuration (computer takes precedence over user). Only do this intentionally.
